Faculty of Agricultural and Food Technology was originally a study program of Phitsanulok Teacher Training College called “Agriculture Course” which emphasizes training the apprentices in the college for practical learning on agriculture knowledge and being able to teach subjects related to agriculture such as crop growing and livestock feeding. Later, the agriculture course developed to be a part of science subjects until before the early 1980s; Thailand faced the problem of an “Oversupply of Teachers”. Therefore, The Department of Teacher Training adjusted the “Teachers College Act” to be able to legally educate students in other fields in teacher colleges apart from teacher apprentices in response to that problem. In 1983, Pibulsongkram Teachers College opened the education on plant science and animal husbandry courses in the form of a community college with cooperation from Chiang Mai University. The college started the construction of the “Flower and Fruit Plant Propagation Center and a Pomelo Propagation Unit”, which was a royal initiative project at Tha Le Kaew Campus. At that event, M.C. Chakrabandhu Pensiri Chakrabandhu, Privy Councilor, attended as president of the opening ceremony of the “The Flower Plant Propagation Center”, which was a demonstration training site and career promotion for people. During this same period, the Agriculture Course received a budget for building for use as an educational institution for students in an agriculture course at Pibulsongkram Teachers College Tha Le Keaw (Currently Pasteurized fresh milk processing factory building).
Pibulsongkram Teachers College, Phitsanulok, was approved to open the Faculty of Agriculture and Industry by adjusting from the original Agriculture Course and organizing its administration into a faculty. During that time, the faculty opened education in three majors: Agriculture major, Agricultural Promotion and Communication major, and Agro-Industry major.
Pibulsongkram Teachers College collaborated with Canadian Community College to develop apprentices in food science and technology programs by providing scholarships to study in Canada. Meanwhile, the faculty invited food processing experts from St. Clair College and Olds College to provide training and classes for students about food processing and milk processing. Besides, they installed food and milk processing equipment as teaching equipment for students and training in agricultural product processing.
Agriculture Major, which had been experimenting with operations as a faculty since 1985, was elevated to the status of “Faculty of Agriculture and Industry” according to the Teachers College Act 1985. Also, there was a new reorganization within the Faculty. The faculty opened education in three majors as follows: Agriculture Major, Agricultural Promotion and Communication Major, and Agricultural Industry Major.
Mr. Sophon Suwannaroj, President of Pibulsongkram Teachers College, had a policy to build a “College Farm” and Construction of the Faculty of Agriculture and Industry building in the area behind Ratchamangkhalapisek Park which was completed in 1989 (Currently, Philosophy Sufficiency Economy Philosophy Demonstration Site).
